The Perfect Dress

Isn’t one of the funnest parts of graduation looking at people’s dresses? You know, just to see what people decided to wear? Well, I think its pretty cool comparing dresses. What I don’t like is how it’s a competition of who has the best one. Finding a graduation dress is harder than it seems. I am a bit of a procrastinator, so of course, I bought my dresses just few days before graduation. Wow was it hard to find the prefect dresses! I think that finding the prefect graduation dress is very important. You want to be comfortable, but formal. And you want something pretty, but not overdoing it. Something that makes me laugh is when people spend so much money looking for the perfect dress. I think it is very hard to find the perfect dress, but I would never spend more than $100 on it. Another thing that I was thinking about was, “would I have found something better if I would have gone shopping earlier?” I mean, I love my dresses, but I was wondering if they would’ve been better if I got them a few weeks ago. Getting the perfect graduation dress is so worrying, that I am not kidding, I had a nightmare that I couldn’t find a dress! In the nightmare, it was the day of the graduation, and my mom and I were looking for dresses all over Multiplaza! In my nightmare, I missed the ceremony, and I don’t know if I ever found a dress for the party because I woke up. Haha, you may think that I am exaggerating… but I am not. The reason why I started freaking out a bit a few days ago is because people kept telling me that I wasn’t going to find a dress. A few days ago, when mom and I first went shopping, we saw one of out neighbors in the grocery store, and we told her we were going shopping for my dresses. The neighbor said “Oh, cool. You know, I went all over the mall a few days ago to find dresses for my daughters, but I didn’t find anything.” That made me so nervous! Anyways, I am glad that I finally got the perfect dresses, and I hope it’ll be a fun graduation!

Television! Wow! How could I live without it? (That sounds pretty sad… Haha) Television in my opinion is one of the best inventions ever created. It is very entertaining, and sometimes you can learn from it. I love watching television. On a sad day, it is prefect for humor. On a lonely night, it is prefect for not getting bored. And on a normal day, it is just plain entertaining! I am very glad that there are many options to choose from when watching television. Cartoons, News, Reality, Sports, Entertainment, Music, and so much more! Television keeps you up to date sometimes, and it gives you some things to talk about; mostly reality shows, or entertainment shows with seasons. Some of those include: American Idol, Americas Next top Model, The Hills, Gossip girl, and others. My personal favorite of these is America’s Next Top Model because it is very entertaining, and you eventually start getting into it, and understanding these people that you don’t even know. I like how it is reality TV, because you know nothing is fake. Well hardly nothing. Sports are another great thing that they give on television. Personally, the only sports I watch on television are the Olympics, but many people seem to watch soccer a lot. It was a very smart idea to put sports on TV, that way, it seems like you are there. Many times, people can’t make it to the events for different reasons, so the easiest thing to do is to just turn on the TV, sit down, and watch whatever it is you want to see. My favorite kind of television is humor. I think it is great when actors can be really funny, and make a show very entertaining. Watching a funny show is very cool because it’s like if someone were there making you laugh. You never get bored, and with humor, you have many options to choose from. I love television! J

Secrets

Everyone has secrets. Most of the time, people tell their secrets to their closest friend, or family. Secrets are meant to be kept safe, which is why I usually tell my secrets to my friends and family that I trust. One thing that really upsets me is when you tell someone not to tell anybody your secret, but they can’t help it, and do it anyway. Why can’t they just keep their mouth shut? Fortunately, this hasn’t happened recently… I think… But before it has happened a lot. When I tell somebody a secret, I expect them to understand me, and not tell anybody. Telling people’s secrets can cause a lot of problems, including backstabbing and hurtful issues; mostly for girls. I wish that more people could be trusted, and you know you can tell them something, and they won’t tell anybody. Another thing that bothers me is when a person tells another person a secret right in front of you. It makes you feel very bad, and excluded. Why cant people just wait for a moment when there’s no extra company to tell a secret? When people tell a secret in front of you, most of the time, you will think they are talking about you. It’s not a very nice feeling, and it makes you feel really bad. I’m not saying that telling secrets is mean; I just think that it’s rude to tell a secret in front of other people. Why are there so many secrets anyway? I have noticed lately that apparently there is a lot of drama going on in this world. Are people really telling people a secret, or are they just pretending to be cool and in the gossip area? I don’t like it when people think it’s cool to tell secrets in front of other people, it just makes you look bad, and it makes people feel bad.

Technology

You know when you go into a store, or look at a new technology catalog, and you see this really cool phone you want to buy? Why? Well, in the 90’s you would say “because you can communicate with people.” In the early 2000’s “because you can communicate with people and take pictures!” and 2005 “Because you can communicate with people, take pictures, and listen to music!” in 2006 “because you can communicate with people, take pictures, listen to music, and use the internet!” in 2007 “because you can communicate with people, take pictures, listen to music, use the internet, and watch T.V!” Everyday, the technology in this world gets higher and higher. You might get your cool new phone, but how much you wanna bet that a few weeks later, it’ll be out of style, and there will be something cooler? I-Pods for example. The I-Pod Classic was the first to come out, and they were so cool until the I-Pod mini came out. For a few months those were cool, until the I-Pod Nano came out. The mini’s and classics weren’t so cool anymore, and they just came out a few months ago. People would call them “Ghetto” yeah, like they were that old! Then a new kind of Nano came out… The colored ones! Black and white ones weren’t cool anymore. Then the I-Phone came out. Who wants and I-Pod now when you can have I-Phone! Then the new Nano’s came out, the ones that look like little squares. Everyone loved those, until the I-Pod Touch came out. No I-Pod is cool now unless you have the I-Pod Touch! All of this happened in 2 years! Why do people care so much whether they have the latest stuff? It doesn’t matter, because they won’t be cool for too long! It’s something that has been bothering me for a long time, and I know technology wont stop… but neither will the people.

What’s The Difference?

Maybe you think this is a really weird thing to write about on a blog; I think its pretty weird myself, but I just have to talk about it. Why are some people so picky about the most unimportant details ever? Food for example. Sometimes, some people will come over to my house, and we’ll make pancakes. Pancakes… Haha. Anyways, so when we’re going to eat the pancakes, they don’t want to eat them because my syrup isn’t 100% maple syrup. I was shocked because it was such a dumb reason to not want to eat pancakes. I just thought: “What’s the difference?” Another thing that bugs me, is when people buy a piece of clothing that looks exactly the same as another piece of clothing, but make a big deal of how it’s different. For example: a pair of blue jeans. Someone will go to Old Navy and buy a pair of blue jeans. Another person will go to Levi’s and buy an identical pair of blue jeans. The person from Levi’s says theirs is better because it’s from Levi’s. I just think: “what’s the difference? They are both an identical pair of blue jeans, and people are making such a big deal of why they are different.” Okay, maybe quality matters, but seriously, besides quality, what’s the difference? The last thing that bugs me is why people make such a big deal of why an Apple computer is so much better than a Windows computer. What’s the difference? They both serve the same purposes. They both have internet, Word, MSN, and they can do exactly the same thing. They both also can have integrated cameras, and cool designs in the back. Why do people argue so much of one being better than the other? They are both computers! Is it because of smallest differences like “Apple computers start up so much faster” By what, 10 seconds?

Books into Movies

As many of you know, many really good books get turned into movies. I think it’s really cool when that happens, but something that bugs me is: “Why are the movies so different from the books?” Harry Potter for example, I don’t exactly read the books, but many people have said that the books are really different from the movies. Why? Why can’t they just do a script out of the book? Why do they have to take out so many good parts, and add unnecessary scenes? I think it just ruins everything. Like I have mentioned before, my favorite book in the world is called Twilight. It is such a great book, that of course, they are making a movie out of it. At first, I was really excited. I was like “Yes! They are making a movie out of these books! I can’t wait for it to come out!” I was so excited! And then, my first disappointment came: The actors and actresses. When I saw which people had the role of the characters I was like, whoa! What? They are nothing like the characters! How can they do this? I thought the movie was going to be ruined! Then, another disappointment came: They are changing so many scenes! I was really upset about that, because I was looking forward to a few parts that they changed. Now, I’m not sure if I want to see the movie anymore. Maybe I’ll see it, but just to see it, not because I am totally excited for it or anything. So I have talked to you about disappointments in the making of movies based on books; though not all movies are really different from the books. A book we read last year called “The Outsiders” wasn’t a very good book. It was okay. But they made a movie of it, and literally, made the script out of the book! It was cool to see the movie exactly the same as the book! I really wish that all movies based on books could be like that.

Shopping!

I know this is really off-topic but this is something I want to talk about: SHOPPING. A lot of people don’t understand why girls like to shop so much; I don’t think I really know either, but I do know that it is something I really enjoy. I love shopping, but something I don’t understand is: why are some things so expensive? I mean, you go to some stores in L.A. and it’s $200 just to go inside! I mean, come on! It’s just clothes! Why do some people pay $500 for a pair of sunglasses? Some people call it “high fashion.” I call it “rip off.” People get designer outfits for like, $2000! Why? You could go to a reputable department store and find the same thing on sale for a lot less. I understand that quality is very important in clothes, but don’t waste your money on something you can get for a lower price and the quality is still good. Another question a lot of people also don’t understand is: why do girls have so many clothes? Well, I don’t know what other girls are thinking, but in my opinion, we have a lot of clothes because we either a) Need to buy something in a store we absolutely love, or b) We don’t like to repeat outfits too much, so we like to be able to put different outfits together. Something I don’t like about Costa Rica is that, the stores here are not very good. I don’t mean prices or quality, but all of the clothes look the same. Why is it so hard to find the right pair of jeans? In my opinion, most of the clothes here are meant for the same shape. What I like about shopping in the U.S. is that there are many different fashions that come in all different colors for all sizes and shapes.

Stephenie Meyer – Author Of “Twilight”

As many of you have seen, the book Twilight is a very popular read book in our school, mostly read by girls. A lot of times, us girls start talking obsessively about that book, and everybody thinks we are over-exaggerating, but the truth is, we’re not. The author of this book, Stephenie Meyer, is now a very well-known author. Twilight is one of the most recognizable books in the United States. She wrote this book extremely well, and you never want to put it down. Her descriptions are so detailed, that you can imagine clearly all the characters and settings. Stephenie Meyer created an unbelievable and very creative world that just absorbs you during your reading. An extremely important detail in this book that I like a lot is that Stephenie likes to use a lot of fictional characters, but create them into her own. She uses some of their known traits, but changes others. Her writing is so unique that you hardly ever see the word “said.” Stephenie writes her books so well, that you can feel the emotion of the characters. Twilight was a very unpredictable book, and a lot of unexpected events happen. I have read this book two times, and I think I am going to read it again. I don’t think I will ever get tired of it; it is the best book ever!

How long does it take to read a book?

In my last blog on reading, I talked about a book called Uglies, which really got me into reading. Uglies though, isn’t the first and last book of the story. The books that follow are Pretties, Specials, and Extras. Each book I read got better and better, and better! When I read Uglies, I wasn’t a very fast reader. It took me months to finish the book. After reading Uglies, I wanted to start the next book right away. I got Pretties as soon as I could, and I read it during Christmas break. I didn’t read very quickly, it took me the whole month to finish the book. After coming back from Christmas break, I was really starting to like reading. I got Specials a couple of days after school started and finished reading it in two weeks. I was very proud of myself for finishing the book so quickly. To most people, two weeks is a long time to finish a book, but since I wasn’t a strong reader, I thought it wasn’t a long length of time. The last book of the story, Extras, I finished in one week. That was the point when I said to myself “I really like reading, and I don’t consider myself a ‘nerd’ because I finished reading Extras so fast.” Well, maybe to many people, one week is still a long time for reading a book, but to me it is pretty fast. The main reasons as I mentioned in my previous blog, why I liked these books so much, was because the author did a very good job in describing every event that happened. He put in so much detail that I always had an image in my head of what was going on. I always lost track of time, because the book pulled me so deep into its world. I really recommend these books to anybody who wants to read lots of suspense, drama, and an enjoyable book.

The Book That Got Me Reading

Like I have mentioned before, at the beginning of the year, I wasn’t much of a reader, but after reading this one book, I wanted to read more. This book is called “Uglies”. Uglies was very interesting to read because the setting is in the 24th century. It was very interesting because it is in the point of view of a normal teenage girl named Tally, who thought of us as “Rusties”- The people who lived almost 300 years ago and almost destroyed the world from all of the pollution we caused, cutting down too many trees, and creating dangerous technology. Tally thought that all of the crazy high-technology she had was normal, like flying boards, walls that talked, rings that told people what to do, and so many more crazy inventions. This book is very suspenseful and many unexpected things happen. Uglies really pulled me into its world because the author has great descriptions and made it very entertaining. What I liked about the book is that even though the main character is dealing with very weird and crazy things, such as a big group of scary people trying to locate her and destroy her new home, there is also a lot of teenage drama. This book is a very good book and made me realize that reading wasn’t so bad after all. I really recommend this book to anybody who likes to read suspense and drama.
